Ferien Travel website
A bilingual German and English WordPress website for Ferien Travel, a Nepal tour operator offering tours, trekking, rafting and safaris.
Challenge
Ferien Travel is a tour operator based in Kathmandu, offering tours, treks and activities across Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and India. The site is aimed first at German-speaking travellers, so it had to work properly in German, with a full English version alongside.
The site needed to do three things well:
- Lots of trips, easy to browse. Tours, treks and activities had to be findable by type and by country, without the site feeling like a catalogue.
- Every trip told the same way. Travellers compare trips, so each one needed the same clear structure: what it is, the highlights, and the route day by day.
- Two languages, one site. A German and an English version of every page, with a way to switch on every page.
Solution
I designed and built a custom WordPress theme around the trips.
- Trip templates for tours, treks and activities, each with a hero image, an overview, highlights and a day-by-day itinerary in expandable sections, so long routes stay readable.
- Two ways to browse: by trip type (tours, trekking, activities) and by destination (Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan, India), with listing pages for each.
- German and English page sets, with the German site at the root and a language switch in the header of every page.
- A responsive Bootstrap layout, a full-width hero slider, photo galleries and share buttons on trip pages.
- Yoast SEO for page titles, descriptions and the XML sitemap.
Result
- Around 75 pages live in two languages: tours, treks and activities in German and English, plus destination pages for Nepal, Tibet, Bhutan and India, a team page, gallery and contact.
- A consistent trip page, so a traveller comparing the Everest Base Camp trek with the Annapurna Base Camp trek finds the same information in the same place.
- A stable layout: no layout shift as pages load (CLS 0 in Lighthouse).
- A reusable foundation: the same theme now also runs WalkSmart, a second brand from the same owner.
