Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

This policy explains what information this website, rameshgautam.com.np, collects when you visit it, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, not just to exist.

In short

  • There are no accounts, comments, newsletters or adverts on this site. The contact form only collects what you type into it.
  • Google Analytics, which uses cookies, runs only if you accept it in the cookie banner. It tells me which pages are read. No information is sold or used for advertising.
  • Your light or dark mode choice is saved in your own browser and never leaves it.
  • You can ask me what I hold about you, or ask me to delete it, at any time.

Who I am

This is the personal website of Ramesh Gautam, a frontend developer based in Kathmandu, Nepal. I am responsible for the information collected here. You can contact me at rameshgautam2049@outlook.com.

What is collected and why

Visit statistics (Google Analytics)

If you choose Accept in the cookie banner, this site uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. If you choose Reject or ignore the banner, the analytics script is never loaded and no analytics cookies are set. When it runs, it records information such as the pages you view, how you arrived (for example from a search engine or LinkedIn), your browser and device type, and your approximate location at country or city level. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses.

I use this only to improve the site and its articles. It is not linked to your identity, shared with advertisers or used for advertising. Google processes this data on my behalf and may do so on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Analytics data is kept for up to 14 months and then deleted automatically.

Server logs

Like almost every website, the server that hosts this site keeps short-term technical logs of requests: IP address, date and time, the page requested and your browser type. These are used to keep the site secure and to fix errors, and are kept by my hosting provider for a limited period. The server is located in London, United Kingdom.

Emails you send me

If you email me, I use your name, email address and message only to reply and to continue the conversation. I keep emails for as long as they are relevant to our contact, and delete them on request.

The contact form

When you send a message through the contact form, your name, email address and message are emailed to me and saved in this site’s database so a message can’t be lost. Your IP address is not stored. I use these details only to reply to you. I delete messages once our conversation no longer needs them, and review and clear old messages at least once a year.

The form uses invisible spam checks that run in your browser; they don’t identify you or use cookies.

Cookies and local storage

The site itself does not set cookies. If you accept analytics, Google Analytics sets two first-party cookies, _ga and _ga_ followed by an ID, which distinguish one visitor from another and last up to two years.

Your cookie choice is saved in your browser’s local storage under the key rp-consent for 12 months, so the banner doesn’t ask on every page. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of every page; withdrawing consent deletes the analytics cookies.

The light and dark mode switch stores your choice in your browser’s local storage under the key rp-mode. It stays on your device and is not sent to me or anyone else.

You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or opt out of Google Analytics on every site with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on. The site works fully either way.

Links to other websites

This site links to other websites, such as LinkedIn, GitHub and websites I have worked on. These are plain links: nothing from those sites loads until you click. Once you leave this site, their own privacy policies apply.

Your rights

Wherever you are, you can ask me to:

  • tell you what information I hold about you, if any;
  • correct it if it is wrong;
  • delete it;
  • stop using it for a particular purpose.

Write to me at rameshgautam2049@outlook.com and I will reply within 30 days. If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Union, you also have rights under the UK GDPR and the GDPR, including the right to complain to your data protection authority. In Nepal, the Individual Privacy Act, 2075 (2018) applies.

Security

The site is served only over HTTPS, the administration area is protected by two-factor authentication, and access to the server is restricted. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, but I take reasonable steps to protect the little information this site handles.

Children

This site is not aimed at children under 16, and I do not knowingly collect information about them.

Changes to this policy

If the way this site handles information changes, I will update this page and the date at the top.
